Carol Stuart Watson Woodend Audubon 1975

Home of the Audubon Naturalist Society, Woodend is a historic grand old Georgian Revival estate on a 40-acre property near Rock Creek in Chevy Chase, Montgomery County, Maryland. Designed by John Russell Pope in the 1920’s for Captain and Mrs. Chester Wells. The Wells Family gave the mansion and property to the Audubon Naturalist Society in 1968.

In 1774 a group of American colonial landowners met at Hungerford’s Tavern (now Rockville, Maryland) to protest British’s closing of Boston’s harbor. They resolved to boycott trade with Great Britain until the blockade was lifted, and sent delegates to what would become the First Continental Congress.
